Also, I found there to be a few glaring plot holes in the story (i.e. After having seen the characters all together and interacting with one another in the first story, this one frustrated me in that they were all leading separate adventures apart from one another and I had to follow along each one. I won’t lie though, all of the different subplots grew tedious. We really got a much deeper insight to this world, which was great. We got to experience way more skinjacking and its consequences, as well as witness ecto-ripping and all of its potential. Shusterman gave us a deeper insight to the world of Everlost. There were so many subplots occurring, but they all led up to the nail-biting climax. ![]() This makes her so different from the typical villain that does what they do because they’re just bad at their core, but Mary (in my opinion) is a good person who just has some skewed world views. While it’s obvious to readers and the characters that Mary is the villain, Mary still think As much as I hate her character, I appreciate the debate she is able to spark. I did ap preciate Shusterman’s work with Mary, though. And don’t get me wrong! I didn’t dislike the characters (I loved Zin!), but there were just so many new additions that it felt like there wasn’t enough time for each of them to develop individually. ![]() Then Shusterman brought in a whole slew of new characters to interfere with this harmony he had created. I enjoyed getting to know them, learning their personalities and their flaws, and exploring their world with them. After Everlost, I had a connection to the four main characters. It had a wide array of characters, alternating viewpoints, and a characterized villain… yet, all of these things worked together to frustrate me and make me like this novel significantly less than I had hoped to. Review: So this story had everything in it that I like. All four of these Afterlights, as well as their respective followers, come together in one fateful battle that will undoubtedly change Everlost as they know it.
