![]() ![]() The Forte VFX-1 when it came out in 94? 95? had a FOV of 45 and nothing that has come out since (that hasn't cost atleast thousands other then the Sony) has had a FOV larger or even the same size, even HMDs the last few years have not really been any higher then 35 diagonally, I think the eMagin Z800 was 40 and it and the Sony have been the only ones to get into the 40's with a price under a few thousand. I don't think there is one, you pretty much have to look up the specs of the HMD your after the FOV of.īut basically depending on what you class as "serious" every HMD that's come out (baring serious professional HMDs costing thousands to 10's of thousands) have been between 25 - 45 degrees diagonally (the majority around the low 30 mark), only exception I can think of off the top of my head is the HMZ-T1 which is 45 horizontal but there has never been and affordable HMD with a FOV larger then that, untill now.Īnd it hasn't really evolved over the years. Thanks for taking the time to reply as I'm sure things are very hectic and will be that way for some time to come. ![]() Must be quite a buzz to be dealing in these circles. Having John Carmack getting in touch and how the ball has rolled ever since. I'm sure the story of the Oculus Rift would make for interesting viewing. I was just thinking today about how Tim Schafer's Double Fine Adventure Kickstart was having a video crew tag along for the ride. ![]() Now my dream would be that they release H元 when the consumer version comes out I'm happy that they have endorsed it, guess it's the frustrated Valve fan in me that wants more from them. I am thrilled that Gabe and Abrash were able to give the support that they did in time for the Kickstarter. Even just the legal side of doing that takes time, never mind negotiating the terms. It is a big jump to go from saying "I think this is cool and you should support it" (a personal endorsement) to "Our company is going to be dedicating a large chunk of time and money to supporting this ourselves" (a corporate endorsement). Anyone that get hung up on the resolution just cannot see the awesome possibilities in my estimation. The product itself is just a fantastic side-effect from showing the world how much the gaming masses want real immersion VR. I put up the cash because I believe in the idea. Wouldn't you be sad you didn't get to try the "greatest VR demo the world has ever seen" right before armageddon?!?! Hell, for all we know the whole world will go up in flames on Dec 21th, 2012. Don't worry about what may or may not come in a year or two's time. Even today you would have to spend like $10,000 or more on something that was comparable. You'd be a fool not to jump on a 110 degree HMD for $300. If you are even remotely interested in VR, then you really have no choice to support this project. It will be immersive, and that's what counts. No, its not Full HD 1080P, but it doesn't have to be. This is already a HUUUUUUGE leap forward from the kind of 30 degree VGA junk we have been dealing with for years. For the most part you will probably need to be using a game with Rift support (like Doom3 BFG) or 3rd party 3D drivers to play games.Īlso, regarding higher resolution displays or version 2.0 of the Rift: Guys, the Rift one isn't even out yet. Anyway, I don't think it would work on full-screen games at the same time, that would need to be something separate probably. Certainly its possible, but maybe not an easy thing. There may be ways to turn the Windows desktop into SBS, but I was having trouble finding any info online regarding this.
